New Digital Learning Programme to Support Prescription and Administration of Parenteral Nutrition Launched
The Health Service Executive has launched ‘Parenteral Nutrition in Paediatrics and Neonatology’ a new online education programme to support a range of healthcare professionals to carry out a nationally agreed standard of practice for the assessment and monitoring of parenteral nutrition for pre-term to 16 year olds in Ireland.
The programme, which was designed in collaboration with Health and Social Care eLearning experts, Aurion Learning, was officially launched at The National Maternity Hospital, Dublin on 11th April 2017.
The interactive, self-directed programme will be used by a range of healthcare staff including; Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and Dieticians working in neonatal units and children hospitals.
Commenting at the launch of the programme, Dr. Maureen Murphy, Learning Strategist at HSELanD said:
“To ensure this programme is engaging, we have included plenty of real-world scenarios where the learner is guided through each of the steps of the assessment, prescription, administration and monitoring of parenteral feeding. It also includes work-based learning activities to engage the learner and help them assimilate the learning throughout the programme.”
She added:
“The programme is also broken down into short modules of study, so learners can complete the learning in one session, or can return to the programme on multiple occasions, returning to their ‘bookmarked’ page.”
Parenteral Nutrition has been developed by the Parenteral Nutrition Expert Group of the National Clinical Programme for Paediatrics and Neonatology to support the HSE’s Clinical Practice Guidelines.
Parenteral Nutrition in Paediatrics and Neonatology can be accessed through HSELanD, the HSE’s online learning and development portal.
Parenteral Nutrition in Paediatrics and Neonatology is one of over 140 eLearning programmes and resources available to healthcare staff at all levels within the HSE, health care and voluntary organisations throughout the Republic of Ireland.
Notes:
As well as delivering support and maintenance to HSELanD, Aurion Learning also provide a full range of online learning and development services, including custom eLearning modules and online learning consultancy to support the HSELanD team.
