Posted on the July 3rd, 2024
Aurion Learning was delighted to recently host the latest in our masterclass event series, Innovation in Digital Learning: Meeting Tomorrow's Challenges at Chartered Accountants House, Dublin on Thursday 27th June 2024.
The event provided invaluable insights into the future of digital learning, with a focus on offering attendees hands-on experiences from organisations who have successfully delivered key learning initiatives, alongside informative workshop sessions focusing on creating accessible learning content and designing the perfect learning platform.
Ailish O'Neill, National Education and Training Manager from the Health Service Executive's National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP), discussed their groundbreaking online training initiative, 'Let's Talk About Suicide.' Ailish's presentation highlighted the nationwide programme's significant, profound impact on empowering individuals across Ireland with the knowledge and confidence to address the sensitive issue of suicide. A powerful example of this was showcased on the day with a video featuring Curry GAA Club, Co. Sligo and the positive influence the training initiative has had on its members.
Ruth Conefrey, Training and Compliance Manager from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), presented their new online learning portal. She detailed how this centralised hub is enhancing food safety expertise across Ireland, benefitting inspectors and over 51,000 food business owners with tailored, accessible content delivery.
Adding to the depth of expertise, Ian O'Keeffe, Technology Lead from the Learnovate Centre shared their cutting-edge research findings on generative artificial intelligence (AI) in digital learning. He offered insights into how AI has the potential to revolutionise learning experiences in the future, addressing challenges such as authentic learning experiences, personalised learning paths/plans, content creation and implications for assessment.
Lee Reilly, Design and Innovation Lead at Aurion Learning led the workshop session on creating accessible learning content, providing practical strategies to ensure learning materials are inclusive and meet diverse learner needs. A key discussion point was the upcoming European Accessibility Act (EAA) deadline approaching on 28 June 2025, which seeks to ensure equal access to digital products and services throughout Europe. Lee highlighted useful tools and resources that will help organisations prepare for this upcoming deadline and provide the best learning experience for users, including an Accessible Learning Checklist.
The final workshop session focusing on designing the perfect learning platform was facilitated by Justin Dougherty, Natalie Geddis, and Gavin Woods from Aurion Learning. This workshop for attendees explored the key features, user experience considerations and innovative design principles needed to create effective and engaging learning platforms tailored to specific organisational scenarios. It was great to see the variety of ideas on show in this session and what attendees felt were the most important features of an effective learning platform.
