Challenge

The Centre for Applied Learning (CAL) is the key provider of generic training to staff in the Northern Ireland Civil Service. CAL offers over 100 courses across a range of categories via classroom training, eLearning and blended approaches.

In order to respond to an upsurge in demand for new eLearning courses across the Civil Service, and ensure more effective use of resources, the CAL management team wanted to develop the in-house skills in the use of eLearning content authoring tools, namely Articulate Storyline.

The team were keen to produce courses in a consistent and visually appealing manner, recognising that different course authors had different levels of technical and design skills.

Solution

Aurion Learning commenced the project with a half day requirement workshop, in order to tailor the training to meet the identified needs.

We delivered on-site introductory and advanced training in the use of the Articulate Storyline authoring tool. We also combined the training with an expert support clinic to address specific technical queries.

Aurion designed a reusable CAL-branded Storyline template, comprising an icon set and over 20 different slide types that the CAL team can use to ensure a consistent visual layout.

Results

The CAL team are now equipped with the skills and template resources required to meet the development demand for eLearning courses. Team members can now produce visually appealing, effective eLearning courses that share a common, professional look and feel.
