Summary
Aurion Learning designed and developed a custom, accessible online learning portal to centralise food safety training for the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and its key stakeholders across the country.
About FSAI
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is a statutory, independent and science-based body, dedicated to protecting public health and consumer interests in the area of food safety and hygiene. The principal function of the FSAI is to take all reasonable steps to ensure that food produced, distributed or marketed in Ireland meets the highest standards of food safety and hygiene, and complies with all relevant legal requirements.
The Challenge
FSAI wanted to streamline and modernise their food safety training ecosystem into one unified, accessible portal.
With food safety standards and compliance requirements continuously evolving, they required a future-proofed solution capable of rapidly adapting and scaling FSAI’s learning offerings over time.
The Objective
The aim was to create a centralised ‘one-stop shop’ online learning solution that would motivate, empower and effectively address the diverse training needs of food businesses and inspectors across Ireland, as well as FSAI internal staff.
The Solution
Working closely with the FSAI project delivery team and key project stakeholders, we helped FSAI develop a bespoke online learning portal, seamlessly integrating this with their upgraded learning management system (LMS). This custom-built solution provides an intuitive, device-neutral experience with user-friendly front-end navigation.
Over 51,000 food businesses and inspectors across Ireland now have access to a world-class web-style learning experience, available anytime and across any device. The portal allows for direct access to personalised learner journeys, with relevant courses, learning pathways and role-based content recommendations all available directly from the integrated LMS.
The portal was designed to complement existing food safety training provision effectively and enhance FSAI’s user group expertise and knowledge. With on-demand access to the latest resources, short videos, food safety facts and webinars, the learning portal solution helps to ensure food safety remains a key priority for food businesses across Ireland.
The Approach
We adopted a highly consultative approach aligned with our proven instructional design and project management expertise. This ensured that user-centred design principles were in place throughout the project, helping to meet FSAI’s requirements and achieve positive outcomes for all.
Ensuring accessibility of the eLearning content was also a key aspect of this project. To successfully deliver this, we utilised our ‘Aurion High5’ design framework to guarantee the highest levels of accessibility, flexibility and mobile compatibility, aligning perfectly with FSAI’s mission of meeting the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.
The Results
The launch of FSAI’s new innovative learning portal project has already had a positive impact on food safety provision across Ireland.
By consolidating learning resources into one seamless and modern user-centric hub, FSAI has strengthened their position as Ireland's number one source for food safety knowledge, awareness and compliance training.
Since officially launching the new learning portal, thousands of businesses have already signed up to use the portal, with over 5000 course completions recorded so far, highlighting the demand for accessible, high-quality food safety training.
