Derry City and Strabane District Council appointed Aurion Learning to design a Good Relations online training programme that would deliver the training more effectively and raise awareness of local diversity and good relations issues in Derry-Londonderry for staff members.
A series of content workshops were set up, which including a review and curation of existing council materials.
Working collaboratively with the Council’s Good Relations team and by identifying the core areas of the learning needs, we were able to develop each module by structuring relevant content and interactive elements that delivered real learning outcomes.
We achieved this by weaving in policy documentation with real-life stories, case studies, quizzes, images and photos of people and places in and around Derry~Londonderry and the Northwest.
We also included interactive practical work-based activities within a local context to ensure that staff relate to the content and can make the connections between diversity in the workplace.
To ensure that the online training was delivered and monitored more effectively, we deployed a backend hosting and reporting platform.
Through the introduction of online learning, Derry City and Strabane District Council delivered mandatory training within a very short time frame (6 weeks) and in doing so have been able to raise awareness of Good Relations and understanding of local diversity for its staff members.
Since it was launched the Council’s Diversity and Good Relations programme has made a significant contribution to operational performance, reducing training costs and associated overheads.
